Configure SQL Server and BIC Sage with Evolution Anywhere

Introduction
This guide will walk you through the steps to find your SQL instance TCP port number using SQL Server Configuration Manager and set up BIC Sage Intelligence Reporting with Evolution Anywhere. Follow these instructions to ensure seamless connectivity and optimal configuration.
Step 1: Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
- You can typically find SQL Server Configuration Manager in the Start menu under Microsoft SQL Server.
- If you’re unable to locate it, search for “SQL Server Configuration Manager” in the Windows search bar.
Step 2: Navigate to SQL Server Network Configuration
- In SQL Server Configuration Manager, expand the “SQL Server Network Configuration” node in the left-hand pane.
Step 3: Select Protocols for Your SQL Instance
- Under the “SQL Server Network Configuration” node, you will see a list of installed SQL Server instances.
- Find and select the instance for which you want to determine the TCP port number.
Step 4: Check TCP/IP Properties
- Right-click on “TCP/IP” in the right-hand pane and select “Properties.”
Step 5: View TCP/IP Properties
- In the TCP/IP Properties window, navigate to the “IP Addresses” tab.
- Scroll down to locate the section corresponding to your desired IP address (typically, you’ll be looking at the “IPAll” section).
- In this section, you should see a field labeled “TCP Dynamic Ports” and another labeled “TCP Port.” The “TCP Port” field will display the currently assigned TCP port number for the SQL Server instance.
Step 6: Make Note of the TCP Port Number
- Take note of the TCP port number displayed in the “TCP Port” field. This is the port number used by your SQL Server instance for TCP/IP connections.
Once you’ve obtained the TCP port number using SQL Server Configuration Manager, you can update it in Evolution Anywhere as necessary to ensure proper connectivity.
Setting Up BIC Sage Intelligence Reporting with Evolution Anywhere
Almost Ready To Launch
Step 1: Launch Evolution Anywhere on the Server
- Hover the cursor over the “New” button, then select “Server,” followed by “File Share.”
Step 2: Create and Configure File Share
- A new file share tab will appear on the right side of the screen. Click on the newly created file share to edit its name and initiate the service.
- Upon clicking “Start,” the following fields will auto-populate: Network Path, Username, and Password.
- Register your file share to manage it through the Evolution Anywhere portal.
- Optionally, rename the FS-Server name to something meaningful for the client.
Step 3: Map Network Drive
- Navigate to File Explorer on the server, right-click on “This PC,” and choose “Map Network Drive.”
- Select an appropriate drive letter (e.g., Q:) and paste the Network Path provided in Evolution Anywhere as the folder.
- Enter the credentials provided in Evolution Anywhere when prompted and ensure to check “Remember my Credentials.”
- The newly mapped drive will now be visible in File Explorer.
Step 4: Copy EvoBicMetaData Folder
- Locate the current EvoBicMetaData folder under the C: drive and copy it to the newly mapped drive.
Step 5: Configure Sage 200 Evolution
- Launch Sage 200 Evolution and log in.
- In the Sage 200 Evolution system tree, access “Sage Evolution Administration,” then proceed to “System configuration” and open “System Wizard.”
- Navigate to the Repository tab and input the Mapped drive address: Q:\EvoBicMetadata
- Click “Next” and then “Finish.”
- Close Sage 200 Evolution and log back in for the changes to take effect.
Step 6: Finalizing Setup on Workstations
- Map the network drive on all workstations using the same network path provided in Evolution Anywhere and the drive letter used on the server.
If connection issues arise while accessing the mapped drive from a workstation, it may be due to restrictions imposed by the ISP. For instance, Vodacom is known for data network restrictions. To address this, please refer to the guide on obtaining an unrestricted APN from Vodacom.
Congratulations! Your SQL Server and BIC Sage Intelligence Reporting setup with Evolution Anywhere is now complete.
